\f0\fs26 \cf0 This scene is told in third person from the viewpoint of Ella Hayes.\
Ella and Bobby sat at a table on the patio outside of the golf course restaurant having a snack. They\'92d finished eighteen holes in three and a half hours, but they still had an hour to kill before they could start the next round on the Palms course. Their fathers were inside at the bar, drinking more beer. Sometimes Ella wondered how her father could drink beers and still play solid golf, but he rarely seemed to be affected at all.\
Ella and Bobby had finished the round tied at two under. The trash talk had gone back and forth during the round, but neither player had ever gotten more than one hole up on the other. It was to be a grunge match on the easier course in the heat of the afternoon. This time, they\'92d take a cart rather than walk in the humidity and heat. Ella would drive; she refused to let Bobby drive the cart as one time he\'92d almost driven them into a pond. \
Bobby asked her out again. She rolled her eyes and said he\'92d always be in the friend zone. He just grinned, knowing what she\'92d say. She\'92d never gone out with any of the boys on the golf team, though she was friendly with all of them and been asked by several of them.\
At last, it was time to play again. They went to the clubhouse and got the key to a cart. Ella drove. She always drove. And she always gave him crap about it.\
